For 2013, NTS is the core-curriculum for all of our adult and teen classes.  During this year every chapter and verse of the New Testament will be assigned for reading and discussion.  This will provide each person with the opportunity to truly grow in their knowledge and understanding of these vital scriptures that are so necessary for a strong faith and witness.  With NTS, we believe Christians will become grounded in New Testament scriptures once again.  Consideration is being given to repeating the study in a few years.

 NTS accomplishes the following:

  • Encourages greater Bible class attendance, both Sunday and Wednesday
  • Reading through every chapter and verse of the New Testament
  • Learning the background of every New Testament book
  • Opportunity for discussing any topic or question found in the New Testament text
  • Opportunity also for learning numerous, helpful memory verses

For each class (Sunday and Wednesday) there will be consecutively assigned sections of scripture to read and consider.  A set of 10 Review Questions are provided for each lesson to help people get into the text.  As you read the assigned chapters you will be exposing your mind and heart to everything Christ wanted you to know about Him and about being His disciple.  For each class the assigned reading is from one to five chapters, with the average being about three chapters (one per day).  Thus, students have several days to do the reading and find the answers to the Review Questions for each class.  The pace is not difficult.

In addition to reading the assigned chapters and doing the Review Questions, several Thought Questions are also provided.  These are designed to get you to think more deeply about what the scriptures are saying. Your reading may also raise additional questions in your mind that you are encouraged to bring up when you get to class.

A Memory Verse is also assigned for each class period (Sunday and Wednesday).  Students are encouraged to work on these as they will greatly strengthen one’s ability to share and discuss God’s Word with others.

To reinforce NTS, on Sunday mornings the sermons will be built from a part of the text covered in the past week.  When completed, the congregation will have a strong core of Christians with a faith well-nourished by the Word!

New Testament Study is broken up into five “units” of study, as follows:

  • Unit 1 begins January 2 and ends March 10, and covers the gospel of Luke and the book of Acts
  • Unit 2 begins March 13 and ends May 29, and covers the gospel of Mark, and the books of Romans, and 1 & 2 Corinthians
  • Unit 3 begins June 2 and ends August 28, and covers the gospel of Matthew, and the books of Galatians, Ephesians, Philippians, Colossians, 1 & 2 Thessalonians, 1 & 2 Timothy, Titus and Philemon
  • Unit 4 begins September 1 and ends October 13, and covers the gospel of John, and the books of 1, 2 & 3 John, and the Revelation
  • Unit 5 begins October 17 and ends on December 29, and covers the books of Hebrews, James, 1 & 2 Peter and Jude

(Note:  During Unit 3, the summer session, all of the adults will meet in the auditorium for a combined class as is our custom.  A variety of teachers will take turns leading the class.)
