Zona Mae Carter Gee

April 21, 1939 – February 25, 2013

Zona Gee passed away Monday evening, February 25, at the Ponca City Medical Center.  Born April 21, 1939, she was 73.  Zona was the youngest of two children born to Otis and Frona Mae Carter in Blackwell.   Her father passed away while she was still a youth and she was raised by her uncle and aunt, Joe and Julia Dobbs who moved to Ponca City in the early 60’s.  They became members of the Hartford Avenue Church of Christ.  Zona grew up in Ponca City and graduated from Po Hi in 1958.  She worked at a number of jobs but for thirty years she worked at Ponca City Medical Center, first in housekeeping and then as a nurse’s aide.  In 1973 she met Les Gee, a nurse at the hospital, and they married in 1976.   After they married, they became members of the Grand Avenue Church of Christ, but moved their membership back to Hartford Avenue in 2002.  She loved helping people and after retiring, gave many hours working at the We Care Clothing Center operated as a ministry of her church.  She enjoyed growing vegetables and visiting with friends at the Wheatheart Nutrition Center.

She is survived by her husband Les of the home in Ponca City.  She is also mourned by many friends within the community and her church.  Her remains were donated to Oklahoma University for medical research.  A memorial service was held for her on Monday, March 4th at the Hartford church building, officiated by Don Huddleston, minister for the congregation.
