AUDREY L. GARROUTTE

July 7, 1925 – June 13, 2012

“A humble, loving, giving servant of Christ”

Audrey Louise Garroutte, resident of Ponca City was called peacefully to the Lord on Wednesday, June 13, 2012. She was 86.

Her life celebration was held at the Hartford Ave. Church of Christ on Friday afternoon, June 15, 2012 with Mr. Don Huddleston, officiating. Burial followed at Odd Fellows Cemetery in Ponca City under the direction of Trout Funeral Home and Crematory.

Audrey was born on July 7, 1925 to Harvey and Rachel Fowler, the first born of 8 children. She married the love of her life, Orville Garroutte on August 24, 1946 in Winfield, KS. Audrey spent her life serving her two great loves, her Heavenly Father and her beloved husband. In loving service to the Lord, Audrey spent countless hours caring for many in nursing homes and those who were shut in. She blessed those elderly with manicures, pedicures, delightful companionship, and most of all, love. She served in the Church over the years working in the nursery and teaching the toddler Sunday school class. She also spent time coordinating family meals for funeral and home baking the communion bread for service each Sunday. However, her greatest pleasure in life was caring for her husband whom she spent 61 glorious years. Her heart became complete when grandchildren and great-grandchildren began to arrive. It was no surprise she was an expert in loving care and serious spoiling. Love was all she knew, and spreading it around was what she did best.

Survivors include her three sons and their wives; John and Carnita Garroutte of Ponca City; Dean and Sherlyn Garroutte of Ponca City; and Tim and Maria Garroutte of Wichita, KS. Six grandchildren; Nancy Alderete of Ponca City; Laura Medina of Wichita, KS; Sandra Willey of Ponca City; Kelly Dean Garroutte of Kansas City, MO; Paula Garroutte of Houston, TX; Gaylee Garroutte of Houston, TX., 12 great grandchildren and 4 great-great grandchildren, two brothers; Ike and Ira Fowler, two sisters; Mini Pearl Jones and Nellie Redmond.

She is preceded in death by her loving husband, Orville Garroutte, both parents, one brother, and two sisters.

In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to In Search of the Lords Way, PO Box 371, Edmond, OK 73083-9901

Below is brother Huddleston’s Eulogy from Audrey’s service

Our Sister Audrey is gone!

She passed away, unexpectedly, at her home on the morning of June 13th.  She had been longing to go on and be with the Lord and her loved ones who have preceded her in death, such as her dear Orville who passed away in 2006.

Audrey was a remarkable Christian sister!  Quiet, unassuming, very humble, she lived to serve others.  She had an uncomplaining attitude towards life and tried always to be an encouragement and help to others.  Her smile could warm a room, her words were gracious and sweet, and with every word and breath, it was her goal to please and honor her Lord!

Audrey was loved by a large family.  She had three sons who gave her many grandchildren, who in turn gave her many great-grandchildren.  She loved every one of them!  But her family also included friends and neighbors, and especially her church family.  For many years she made the communion bread that was used in the worship service each Sunday.  She literally “washed the saint’s feet” and engaged in countless other deeds of kindness and love.  She faithfully prayed for her children and family and lived to see all three of her sons active in the Lord’s church.

It is people like Audrey that make the world a brighter, better place.  As we gather together for worship, study, fellowship and work, we know she is going to be missed.  Thank you Lord for allowing us to have her for these many years.
